Families looking to spend a day outdoors before summer winds down will have the chance to learn new skills and explore Wyoming’s natural resources during Kids Outdoor Day on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis.
Hosted by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Hot Springs State Park and several community organizations, the free event will feature hands-on activities designed to introduce children and families to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. No pre-registration is required.
Registration opens at 9 a.m. at the park pavilion, with activities running from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants are welcome to arrive at any time throughout the day, and most activities will rotate every 30 minutes.
Families will have the opportunity to try archery, air rifle shooting, paddleboarding and kayaking on the Cooling Pond, guided mountain bike rides, birding walks and bear spray demonstrations using a “robo-bear.” Other stations will include opportunities to meet Jupiter, a great horned owl, learn about bison and macroinvertebrates, and explore a variety of other outdoor skills.
The event is geared toward families and children ages 6 and older. Youth must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone.
