The Worland Fire Protection District #1 and Worland Volunteer Fire Department have responded to a variety of emergency calls during the first half of July, including grass fires, a propane leak, a dumpster fire and a burning tele-handler.
Several incidents were weather-related, while others required firefighters to mitigate potentially hazardous situations. No injuries were reported in any of the district’s responses.
One of the more significant calls came on July 12, when crews responded to 1199 Lane 8 for a report of a large residential propane tank leaking. Firefighters safely flared the remaining propane from the tank to eliminate the uncontrolled leak and prevent a potentially dangerous situation.
Firefighters also battled two reported grass fires during the month. On July 7, crews responded to the No Water Stock Trail south of the Worland airport after lightning sparked a grass fire. A second grass fire was reported on July 14 along Hidden Dome Road. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Other responses included a tele-handler fire on South Flat Road, a dumpster fire on Holly Avenue, a tree down on a power line on Robertson Avenue and a residential fire alarm on Obie Sue.
The department was also dispatched to a reported vehicle crash on July 4 near 571 Highway 20, but the incident was determined to be in Hot Springs County and was handled by that county’s emergency responders.
On July 9, firefighters investigated reports of smoke in the No Water area south of Worland. Crews determined the smoke originated from a controlled burn in Hot Springs County, and no response from the Worland Fire Department was required.

- July 1, 9:25 p.m. – Tree fell onto a power line at 1204 Robertson Ave. No injuries reported.
- July 4, 2:45 p.m. – Responded to a reported vehicle crash near 571 Highway 20. Incident occurred in Hot Springs County and was handled by their emergency services.
- July 7, 3:11 p.m. – Lightning-caused grass fire reported on No Water Stock Trail, south of the airport. No injuries.
- July 9, 10:00 a.m. – Investigated reports of smoke in the No Water area. Smoke was from a controlled burn in Hot Springs County. No response required.
- July 12, 6:47 p.m. – Large residential propane tank leak at 1199 Lane 8. Crews safely flared the propane to mitigate the leak. No injuries.
- July 13, 9:18 p.m. – Dumpster fire at 304 Holly Ave. No injuries.
- July 14, 7:44 p.m. – Grass fire on Hidden Dome Road. No injuries.
- July 14, 9:47 p.m. – Fire alarm activation at 812 Obie Sue. No injuries.
- July 17, 3:08 p.m. – Tele-handler fire at 2088 South Flat Road. No injuries.
